Gully Foyle is quite a conflicted character. Do you think that he is a hero or a villian? Cite specifics from the story to support your answer.
Gully Foyle is niether hero nor villan. He would be what we call an anti hero. hes not really interested in anyone but himself, but he doesnt do anytihng bad per say. he just trys to survive. No one could be viewed as"bad" if the only thing theyre tying to do is survive.- Alex Campbell
I side with campbell on thsi one. Gully is in it for himself he does the right thing when it suits him best and he does the wrong thing when it suits him best. I dont think he really cares about good and bad all that much in the end hes been alone and hes going to stay alone so he watches out for number 1 him.

Response- i agree with Alex, because we dont really know what he is right now in the story, right now he is niether. He hasnt really shown anything to make him bad, but not good either.- Erica Keim
Response 2- I also agree with Alex because Gully's character hasn't developed enough yet for that to be determined. -Jess Filegar
Gully Foyle is deffinatly a villan although he lived through a very bad situation, his soul purpose now is to attack the Vorga-T: 1339 and nothing else he has no other motive nwo for survial other than revenge. Allthough they have wronged him in a great way he still is seeking out pain and suffering for some one else.-John Benton
Response- i agree with alex too. Gully doesnt realy show any characteristics of being a hero or a villian. he just goes with the flow- Dominic Spinazzola
Response: I also agree with Alex, Gully isn't a hero or a villan we can't really tell if he is bad because he is just struggling to survive. If i was him i would do the same thing. I dont think i would be very nice to anyone either in that situation.-Alyssa Gallagher
I think the Gully could be a hero or a villian. Hero, because he might be helping others like him to destroy Vargo, causing him to be the hero. Villian, because what if Vargo is a good thing that will help others in the future. But his character has not evolved enough through the story to decide if he protrays a villian or a hero.- Catherine Averill
I thnk that Gully is a hero who turns to a villian. He is turned by his soul purpose for revenge on the Vorga for passing him up. The renvenge just takes him body, soul, and mind, it sounds like he doesnt want to fight it either, it sounds like he wants to embrace it.-Chanelle Meadows
Response: i agree with Chanelle, he starts out as a hero, but the revenge on Vorga takes over him.-Erica Keim
I think that Gully is a hero, but only when it is in his favor, or when he get something out of it. Like when he helps free Jiz from prison. -Kyle Waite
I think Gully Foyle is a villian. The only reason he returned fo Jisbella when he broke out of Gouffre Martal was because he needed her brain power to help him seek his much awaited revenge on the Vorga. He also needed her brain power to rediscover the nomad. However as soon as he used Jisbella and had what he needed from her he had no problem leaving her when he was at risk of being caught by Dagenham. ~nicole dengler
Respone: i agree with nicole, he just takes what he needs and then when he is done with it, he just throws it away. He is turning into a villian more and more into the story.-Erica Keim
Response: I agree with Nicole. I think he is a villian because he takes advantage of people and then disgards them in a sense. He uses other people for his benefit. I think he is very self-centered. Later though, Jisabella gives him a taste of his own medicine. She later ditches him and he grows very angry and resentful. She had no problem leaving him to die or get hurt, just he had no problem leaving her when he was at risk of being caught by Dagenham. -Nicole Crossman
I agree with you Nicole. When Gully finally has a somewhat friend and maybe even more, he screws it up because he is constantly thinking of only himself, making him a villian. -Kelsey Baker
At this piont in the story i believe that Gully is a hero.He didnt have to go out of his way bashing threw walls and gaurds to save jiz. He is very fixated on vorga but at this piont in the story he doesnt think far enough ahead to know he needs more than pure animalistic rage and an apitite for revenge. He was all alone and going crazy while in Gouffre Martaland jiz brought sanity and stability in his darkkest hour. because of this he preformed a selfless task in saving her. - Alexander Hall
Response: I half agree with Alex. Gully is conflicted with being a hero and a villian. He does go out of his way to save Jiz, but he also abandons her without a second thought. He seems to have some kind of conscience only half the time. -Jess Filegar
Gully then goes back to where Robin lives, and ask her for her help, she agrees. Hes nice to her, but then all of a sudden when she wants to leave he tricks her. I think this is the way of a villian. He get what he wants and then doesnt help anyone else, and when he kills forrest he doesnt care.-Erica Keim
Now that I have read father into the book I'm pretty sure that Gully is a villian. I think this because he is so wraped up on his revenge on Vorga T: 1339 that he does not care about he does to find information about Vorga. For example, when he is trying to get information out of Forrest, Gully went too far and killed him. Gully did not give him a chance to answer his quesion. Also Gully did not even care that he just killed him.- Catherine Averill
Further on in the book I think that Gully is a villian because when he was trying to find information about the vorga he was killing people without even giving them a chance to answer the questions he had to ask.
Gully is one of those characters that doesn't choose a side. He is neither good or bad, he just goes about doing whatever he wants to do. He'll do anything to his own benefit, even if other people suffer in the process, it doesn't matter to him. As long as he's happy then thats all that matters. -Justin Campbell
I feel that Gully is a hero for the fact that instead of giving the PyrE to the “leaders” of the world, he gives it to the world itself and lets them decide their fait. He believes that the world has a choice about their future and it shouldn’t be in the hands of someone who wants to control everyone. – Sasha Cochran
Gully Foyle is indeed a hero in my opinion, but this doesn't get expressed until the very end of the book. During the time frame in the story where he took the PyrE and jaunted across the world ruthlessly handing it out to random citizens is a ballsy move, and a heroic one if I do say so myself. He is a changed man, but still relates to his roots, and this is why I believe he is a hero. -Cullen Schimminger
